Our Teaching Method

    

You know what a unique individual your child is, and at IMCH we recognize that children develop at different rates. Through carefully selected educational materials, and a warm caring atmosphere, we encourage children to progress at their own pace. Learning is reinforced by helping others and, in so doing, each child takes pride in recognizing their own accomplishments. This reflects the Montessori philosophy of individual accomplishment and is the cornerstone of our program.

The system of Montessori education is both a philosophy of child growth and a rationale for guiding it. It is based on the child's developmental needs for freedom within limits, and a carefully prepared environment which guarantees exposure to materials and experiences through which to develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. It is designed to take full advantage of the self-motivation and unique ability of young children to develop their own capabilities. The child needs adults to expose her to the possibilities in life, but the child herself must direct her response to those possibilities.

The key premises of Montessori Education are:

· Children are to be respected as different than adults, and as individuals who differ from each other. The child possesses unusual sensitivity and mental powers for absorbing learning from his environment that are unlike those of the adult both in quality and capacity.

· The most important years of growth are the first six years of life when unconscious learning is gradually brought to the conscious level.

· The child has a deep love and need for purposeful work. She works, however, not as an adult for profit and completion of a job, but for the sake of the activity itself. It is the activity which accomplishes the child's most important goal--her mental, physical, and psychological powers.

· Children learn to read and are well-prepared for first grade.
